We apologize for today's email outage.

Your email account was offline today and we apologize. 

Yesterday there was a fluctuating power disturbance that rolled through the Ashland Office and our backup power system did not handle it well.
 
Our automated system detected errors in the hard drive and sent error messages to our alert system. The system asked our support team to run a process to fix the issue.

Due to the nature of the problem they decided to run the prescribed process immediately.
Unfortunately the process did not disclose how long it would take the server offline and gave no indication as to progress.
 
The process lasted several hours, but it did complete successfully and the operating system reports a healthy file system once again.
 
As of 3:15pm all email services were back online.
We appreciate your patience.

We always try to learn from these experiences and will do our best to prevent this from happening in the future.
  • New equipment has been ordered to better handle that kind of power disturbance. (We will schedule a very short maintenance downtime to install the new equipment.) 
  • We will change our internal notification process so that I am made aware of it sooner. (Although I had nothing to do with the recovery - some of you called me directly asking me to do something)
As outages do not happen often we can be a bit caught off guard as to the best process to follow to communicate our progress.
 
One of the many things we did well was keeping you informed via the website.
In the future I will create a SMS system that allows you to input your email or cell number so that we can keep you up to date if you opt-in.

As always, I'm very proud of my team. They handle situations like this very well and they work through lunch and breaks in order to serve you.
